Chris Carroll

Chris Carroll has been a member of The Parks and Recreation Foundation of Johnson County board of directors since 2018.   Carroll had previously been appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as a Commissioner of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.  He held that position from 2014 until 2018.

Chris spent over 48 years in the telecommunications industry.  Now retired, he is the former Regional Director of AT&T’s External & Legislative Affairs organization and served as the company’s liaison to the communities of Northeast Kansas.  Chris was AT&T’s representative to all civic and community organizations in the Kansas City metro area and served as an extension of the AT&T Foundation.

After retiring in the spring of 2014, I wanted to stay involved in the community.  The opportunity to serve on the JCPRD board presented itself at just the perfect time. That experience was invaluable and helped me have a greater appreciation of the importance of preserving and growing our excellent parks system. Once leaving the Parks board, it was a natural move to the Parks Foundation board and I’m excited to play a part in helping raise funds for our parks, trails, cultural and recreation programming and the arts. One of the primary reasons we moved to Johnson County 30 years ago was the quality of life here.  We love the many parks and trails and family-oriented activities that the park and recreation district provide for its citizens and those that visit here.  I’m excited about being a part of what makes Johnson County great, and I look forward to contributing to the Foundation’s goals of strategic philanthropic investment and revenue generation.

Chris is married to his wife Beth of 44 years. They have two children and two grandchildren. Chris and his wife love traveling and experiencing other cultures, as well as hiking and visiting the National Parks.  They have a passion for good wine and frequent wineries and vineyards for tastings and tours whenever possible. When not traveling, they spend as much time as possible with their grandchildren. Chris’s favorite Johnson County Park is the nearby Verhaeghe Park at Coffee Creek.  He and his family regularly utilize the Coffee Creek Streamway trail directly behind their home.
