Laura McConwell

Laura McConwell became a Board Member of The Parks and Recreation Foundation of Johnson County in the fall of 2018. Laura has a long history with JCPRD from collecting newspapers as a small child to help raise money for Theater-in-the-Park to realize its dream and swimming for the Blazers as a teenager to watching her children participate in JCPRD classes and activities. Laura practices law in Mission, Kansas.

Laura served the City of Mission as a three term mayor (2002-2014) and was named Kansas Mayor of the Year in 2008. She was the guiding force behind several impressive smart growth and sustainable initiatives in the city which allows Mission to truly be a community for all ages.

Laura is the incoming President of the Johnson County Bar Association, a board member of the Shawnee Mission School District Education Foundation and a board member of the Shawnee Mission Medical Center Foundation. She has served numerous community organizations and has a number of civic affiliations.

Laura graduated Brown University and the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law. She and her husband have 5 children and 2 dogs, Hosmer and Sophie, both of whom are quite fond of the off leash dog area at Shawnee Mission Park.
